Something that has long baffled me is why so many pay so little attention to their shoulders.
To illustrate the point, a common split I’ve encountered over the years goes:
A) Chest and Triceps,
B) Back and Biceps
C) Legs and Shoulders
Another, equally egregious example:
A) Chest and shoulders
B) Back
C) Legs
D) Arms
And so it goes on.
Much better, in my humbly correct opinion, to give shoulders their own day or else train full body and hit the shoulders first after warming up.
Why?
Many reasons, including (but not limited) to:
* Shoulder development has the most profound impact on how good you look in and out of clothes (applies even if you are a little on the pudgy side) because they increase your shoulder to hip ratio (otherwise known as the “V Taper”),
* Giving your shoulders a lot of direct attention can actually reduce the risk of shoulder injury via horizontal pressing activities like bench presses,
* There are few better feelings than knowing you are able to strict press the weight of the average man over your head for multiple reps with contemptuous ease.
Chasing that last point tends to result in you achieving the previous two by default, if my experience is anything to go by.
However.
If your overhead pressing strength is currently languishing in the lavatory, you will need a straightforward, sustainable, and, above all, safe way to get it up (‘cuz you can’t build stronger shoulders if they are constantly getting injured).
Enter, “The Six Week Peak”, which if you follow as instructed could conceivably result in your overhead press one rep max being 2.5kg higher than it is today about a month and a half from now.
If you think that doesn’t sound like a whole lot, you’d be right. But little gains such as these have a habit of compounding over time into something a whole lot more remarkable.
Anyway, “The Six Week Peak” is an eBook that was once an integral part of a 6 week coaching package which is no longer for sale.
But it’s such a sleek and simple little system I figured it’d be a shame to let it sit on my hard drive gathering dust.
The price?
£20.
A lot less than a bag of whey protein (apart from those “bargain basement” tubs that will give you diabetes).
And, I daresay, the info inside, properly applied, will do more for your ability to add weight to the bar than circa 50 servings of slimy gunk.
But I am biased.
Whatever.
