Stop training like an athlete

Something I have noticed is that many in the fitness industry sell what I have called:

“The athlete experience”.

In brief, this involves having non-athletes train how (it is commonly believed) athletes train.

It takes many guises, but the topic of my ire today are lifting programmes that require multi-page spreadsheets and a mathematics degree to follow.

“BuT yOu NeEd To TrAcK tO mAkE pRoGrEsS!!1!”

Cry noodle-armed and pot-bellied keyboard warriors.

Correct.

You do need to track.

But you don’t need to finely calculate every single set of every single lift you perform for the duration of the programme.

Indeed, trying to do so almost always begets frustration when you inevitably start failing to hit what the spreadsheet tells you because your kid kept you up all night.

And when you miss sessions? (And you will miss sessions from time to time because everyone with a life outside the gym does).

The whole thing falls apart like a stale piece of cake.

Why?

The majority of ultra-fine-tuned training programmes require you to hit the prescribed weights, at the prescribed time, for the prescribed number of reps to facilitate progress.

Hence, even one sub-par or missed session quickly snowballs resulting in you, at best, wasting all the time and effort hitherto spent and, at worst, picking up a nasty injury as you struggle to keep up.

The solution?

Attend my inventively titled live, online seminar:

“How to write a training programme”

And learn how to write a training programme.

But not just any programme.

One that delivers sustained and sustainable results without you having to wrangle with a spreadsheet or, worse, spend even more time on your phone engaging with some God-forsaken “app”.

A ticket is £60.

The talk is at 1900 on Wednesday the 16th of October.

This is for UK residents only.

To make sure I don’t fall foul of the international taxmen, I am going to ask for your address at the checkout.

Any purchases from outside of the UK will be immediately refunded and the offender blacklisted for failing to comply with very simple instructions.

I may or may not run this event again, and it will not be recorded.
