Cometh a question from a newish reader:
===
Do you do much around bodyweight/calisthenics?
===
My response:
I am greatly fond of them, albeit I advocate a blended approach for most people in most cases (i.e. use them to supplement basic barbell/dumbbell lifts).
Doing one or the other exclusively is needlessly reductive and leaves a lot of potential on the table, in my experience.
Hence, all of my programmes include at least some bodyweight work, even if it’s only situps or whatever for abs, with most of them having options to incorporate more.
There is no “perfect” calisthenics:weightlifting ratio because it ultimately depends on the individual, and so can only be discovered through a hearty amount of trial and error plus a bunch of critical thinking about where you are and where you want to be.
I will say this, though.
Most beginners do too much, and most experienced trainees do too little.
Read into that what you will.
Alternatively, you can sling some coin in my direction and I will sort you out personally.
£360 gets you three Real Paper handbooks that explain how to write efficient, effective programmes in some considerable (yet not overwhelming) detail plus three months with Yours Baldly at your beck and call to make sure you put it into action.
Details are below.
Please read the whole letter carefully before making a decision.
If you don’t want to read the letter because you feel it’s “too long” or don’t like my writing style, don’t purchase as you won’t benefit from the offer:
