How to avoid getting conscripted

I see this “conscription” thing is still doing the rounds, so here are my thoughts:

According to the Health Survey for England 2021, 37.9% of UK adults are overweight with a further 25.9% being obese.

Obviously, the proper fatties won’t be of any use on the frontlines, but I suspect a vast chunk of the “overweight” crowd will be non-deployable too.

Why?

General Physical Preparedness (GPP) – namely, a lack thereof.

Broadly speaking, GPP covers your ability to perform basic athletic feats like running a few miles, lifting and shifting light to moderate loads, climbing, crawling, safely falling, and so on.

Most adults – even those who aren’t fat and, yes, even those who “go to the gym” – can’t do any of that stuff. Not well, anyways.

Now imagine those people in body armour with a big bergen on their back and a rifle in their hands.

How anyone can seriously think they’d be able to, I dunno, march in the wind, rain, and mud in the middle of the night having eaten very little food – let alone engage an enemy effectively afterwards – is utterly beyond me.

And, no, given the absolute state most people are in, basic training ain’t gonna get them ready. (If they even make it to the end, and odds are, they won’t).

My point?

Our society is so devoid of men who are strong of body and mind we’ve already lost any future conflict, so conscription won’t happen.

Or maybe they’ll conscript the fit few and then we’ll lose.

Whatever.

If you’d like a shot at being fit enough to bleed out in a field somewhere in Eastern Europe, get yourself subscribed to The Phil Tyreman Letter.

February’s issue explains how to build a large, shapely, and powerful back.

This is important because you’re going to need a strong back to carry all your equipment around whatever frozen hellscape our patriotic and totally not corrupt overlords deign to send you.
