Yesterday, a subscriber, Liam Bagnell, sent me this email:

“If, like me, you are the sort of man who yo-yos between smashing the gym several times a week and eating right, to being downright lazy and eating like a pig – you have to read Lift by Phil Tyreman! The material contained within is nothing short of gold – filled with motivation, actionable tips, and I daresay a handful of philosophical musings to sweeten the deal. Phil is clearly an absolute pro at what he does and the beautiful thing about what he suggests is that you haven’t got to put yourself through hell to achieve your goals, if I may quote a paragraph “There are no crazy exercises, ultra-hardcore diets, or vomit-inducing cardio sessions. This is because the best way to get results consistently over a long period of time is to focus on doing the basics well. No ifs, buts, whys, maybes, or wherefores.” It’s all highly achievable, you don’t need to almost kill yourself every time you go to the gym (for years I thought this was the best method!) Consistency and discipline are the main goals here.

Whilst the material and advice throughout the book are absolutely brilliant, that’s not the only reason I love Lift. The style of writing is just brilliant. In my experience, authors of self-help and inspirational books simply speak to their audience. Phil goes a step further and allows the reader to capture a feeling of being spoken with as opposed to be spoken to by writing in a conversational style. This is an incredibly difficult skill, but it means you don’t want to put it down. I honestly got the feeling numerous times that he wrote the book specifically for me! I found myself audibly answering questions he posed, and agreeing with statements. He uses an extensive vocabulary so you know you’re reading something intellectual, but he is still able to capture an informal style – because let’s face it, this isn’t a business book.

I will say this, and I know Phil won’t mind because a lot of the preface is specifically about who this book isn’t for. If you’re easily offended, take issue with being told what to do by someone more knowledgeable than you, or you’re not willing to put in a lot of work to achieve your goals – save yourself some time and give this book a miss. Phil doesn’t hold anything back and he intentionally pinches on nerves throughout the book. This isn’t to be nasty in any way, quite the opposite. He truly wants to help you become the best version of yourself. Telling you what you want to hear will not help you, so be ready for some harsh reality. But I can say with absolute confidence that if you’re man enough to own your shortcomings, then this will be the single most transformational read of your entire life.”

I’ve nothing more to add.

However, I will say that this email prompted me to stop giving away Lift to people who sign up to my list. because it’s obvious to me from the questions and complaints I get that most people don’t read it.

I get why this is the case.

Working through a 127-page PDF – no matter how expertly formatted – is difficult, even if you own an e-reader.

So now it’s no longer available in digital format anywhere.

From today, the only way to get a Lift is to subscribe to The Phil Tyreman Letter.

When you do, I’ll send you a physical copy via Royal Mail Tracked 48 at my expense so you can quickly digest the teachings and start applying them to the way you train, eat, and live.

Evidence indicates physical books are superior to ebooks because you are far more likely to retain information you glean from a Real Book printed on Real Paper.

This means that provided you’re serious about training, do what I say, and are in good health you’ll probably start seeing results within weeks, but I cannot and therefore do not make any guarantees.

Speaking of The Phil Tyreman Letter, February’s issue explains how to build a strong, healthy back.

Some of what I’m going to share is designed to fit alongside most sensible training programmes, so, if you feel it’s appropriate, you can start implementing it and reaping the rewards right away. (And if you’re not sure, you can just email me and I’ll either give you the green light or suggest an alternative).

Subscribe here – the deadline for February’s issue will be with us very soon:
