17 training mistakes

What follows is a list of 17 training mistakes.

Bountiful experience tells me you’re probably making at least one of them and are limiting the return on your time and sweat investment as a result.

We begin:

1) Training too much,

2) Not training often enough,

3) Doing too many “filler” exercises like curls and leg extensions,

4) Deloading too infrequently (or not at all),

5) Deloading too often,

6) Having no plan for what to do when you miss sessions (with or without good reason),

7) Increasing the weight at the expense of your form,

8) Not doing any meaningful cardio,

9) Doing far too much cardio (in terms of session duration, intensity, frequency, or some combination of the three),

10) Viewing training in terms of weeks and months rather than years and decades,

11) Following bodypart split routines favoured by steroid-abusers,

12) Using too many intensity techniques like drop sets, forced reps, and partials,

13) Training for bigger muscles when fat,

14) Not mastering barbell variations of the squat, bench press, deadlift, and overhead press,

15) Believing isolation work is for pansies,

16) Not training abs,

17) Hopping to another programme at the first sign of trouble or, worse, because you got bored.

Any one of those 17 errors has the potential to truly torpedo your efforts.

Hopefully you will take steps to address any you have identified that you are making.

One such step could be attending my 90-minute live, online seminar:

“How to write a training programme”

And learn how to write a training programme that does not commit any one of the above 17 sins.

Consequently, you will enjoy sustained and sustainable results without you having to wrangle with a spreadsheet or, worse, spend even more time on your phone engaging with some God-forsaken “app”.

(Subject to the obvious caveat of you putting what you learn into practice and having sufficient patience to wait, potentially many months, for it to bear fruit.)

A ticket is £60.

The talk is at 1900 on Wednesday the 16th of October.

This is for UK residents only.

To make sure I don’t fall foul of the international taxmen, I am going to ask for your address at the checkout.

Any purchases from outside of the UK will be immediately refunded and the offender blacklisted for failing to comply with very simple instructions.

I may or may not run this event again, and it will not be recorded.
