Continuing from yesterday’s missive, below are 17 more training mistakes so you can identify where you are going wrong and, hopefully, act to correct your course:
1) Not following a programme
2) Following a programme that requires detailed bookkeeping,
3) Believing what a fitness wearable says is as true as words spoken by God Himself,
4) Using ShatGPT to write your programme because it’s easier than learning to do it yourself,
5) Doing more pressing than pulling,
6) Neglecting your calves,
7) Training with a view to getting DOMS,
8) Failing to consider the impact steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs have had on what is taught about fitness today,
9) Wearing a belt without understanding what they do or why they were invented,
10) Using advanced bodybuilding, powerlifting, and/or athletic methods without first building a rock-solid foundation of muscle, strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, and technical proficiency.
11) Calculating weights based off of what you think you can lift or have lifted in the past, rather than what you know for a fact that you can lift right now,
12) Not running outdoors (if you are capable of doing so),
13) Being unable to learn more about training without immediately and unthinkingly changing what you’re doing to match the new information,
14) Not doing enough bodyweight work,
15) Doing too much bodyweight work,
16) Failing to consult an appropriately qualified medical professional (e.g. a medical doctor or registered physiotherapist) at the first sign of injury and follow their advice even if that advice is “stop training”,
17) Thinking training must be fun and engaging to be effective.
Like yesterday, I am not going to tell you what you should or should not do to rectify any of these mistakes.
For that, you will have to furnish my greedy pockets with a small amount of coin.
£60 to be precise, because that is the fee to attend my 90-minute live, online seminar:
“How to Build a Training Programme”.
Wherein I will explain, in some considerable detail, how to right all of the above wrongs.
The talk is at 1900 on Wednesday the 16th of October.
This is for UK residents only.
To make sure I don’t fall foul of the international taxmen, I am going to ask for your address at the checkout.
Any purchases from outside of the UK will be immediately refunded and the offender blacklisted for failing to comply with very simple instructions.
I may or may not run this event again, and it will not be recorded.
