“No matter how hard you train and how careful you are with your diet, when you’ve been fat your weight will creep back up again.“
“Like it or not, it’s just The Way Things Are™.”
“To prevent your weight spiraling out of control, you need a way to bring you swiftly back to your baseline.“
“This letter explains how…”
Dear Friend,
Believe it or not, I used to be Very Fat.
Not a full blown hamplanet, but I was well on the way with how I was eating and living.
It was a big problem I managed to sort out relatively swiftly. But that is not the subject of this letter.
No. What I am going to tell you about today concerns what happens after you’ve bust a gut to shift your gut.
Because sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west…
Probably not as fat as when you started, but certainly enough to make you start dodging mirrors and having your picture taken like Count Dracula.
How do I know?
I‘ve been in this exact, unenviable situation more times than I would like to admit in the sixteen years since my original weight loss.
As recently as earlier this year (2025).
Here’s the story: Sometime in late spring I begrudgingly accepted I had a problem.
Waistbands were beginning to bite. My lower back was aching. I looked a little “plump” in the face and belly.
All sure signs my weight was creeping up.
My response was, counterintuitively, to cancel my gym membership, so I could focus on bodyweight and cardiovascular training (both things I tend to neglect in favour of lifting weights).
It worked, but not as well as I or, indeed, Jess would have liked.
Speaking of Jess, one morning, as I was getting out of the shower she decreed I needed to
And so, I really upped the ante; re-introducing relatively heavy weightlifting alongside long(er) runs, more intense bodyweight work, and some other bits and pieces into what is by far the most demanding training regime I have ever created.
I called it Operation: Winnow in honour of the firm kick up the backside my thin, attractive wife gave me.
It worked a whole lot better.
In fact, it’s the most effective fat burning protocol I have hitherto composed (not saying my others are inadequate, only that this one has potential to deliver results more swiftly for those with the time, discipline, and interest to give it a good go).
Given how shockingly well it gets the job done, I decided to write it down and bind it into an informative, entertaining, and very expensive Real Paper book so others with the means and the will can benefit from it as I have.
Behold the details:
Operation: Winnow is for men and women who have (despite best efforts) regained weight and want a way to get rid of it without resorting to a bonkers diet or taking drugs.
Operation: Winnow is not for those who:
* Are currently not training at all,
* Have a “personal responsibility” allergy, or,
* Can’t or don’t want to train at least five times weekly.
(Take note: “five times weekly” does not mean five days per week; you can “double up” some of your sessions to get more days off if needs be, and I will show you how to do this sustainably).
Operation: Winnow is a 52 A4-page Real Paper book.
There is not and never will be an electronic version, so please don’t ask.
Here’s a peek at what awaits you between the covers:
* The surefire way to tell whether or not you are getting fat (as foolproof as it gets so long as you don’t have a mental disorder).
* A powerful latin phrase that, once properly pondered, will most likely result in you adopting a more virtuous approach to training, eating, and living that, even if they don’t make you live longer (although they may just do exactly that) will make your journey through this life a whole lot more pleasant.
* How to pursue more than one training goal simultaneously… without compromising your ability to achieve any of them.
* The proper way to structure a training programme (what I lay out here is the foundation of every training regime I have created in the last decade and a half, with only a handful of highly niche exceptions).
* How to safely and sustainably “double up” (i.e. take more than one training session in a day) to get in more quality work while still leaving plenty of time for recovery and living life.
* What is, in my opinion, the one piece of training equipment no serious trainee can do without (once you’ve got one, you’ll never again find yourself in the unenviable position of having to miss a workout due to time or travel constraints… and…better… you’ll probably get significantly leaner and tougher when you properly integrate it into your routine).
* When it’s OK to mix and match exercises between or even within workouts (most of the time, this is a Very Bad Idea, but there are rare occasions when it works to your advantage – the example I lay out in Operation: Winnow being one of them).
* How to use weightlifting workouts to plug critical gaps in bodyweight-based training regimes (important if you do not fancy becoming intimately acquainted with an orthopaedic surgeon).
* How to construct “abbreviated” weightlifting workouts so you can keep chipping away even when you are very busy (and probably stressed as well).
* My “low tech” solution to the problem of training consistently when your schedule is unpredictable.
* How to “intensify” your training programme to accelerate towards your goal(s) or bust through troublesome plateaus… without crashing and burning into a pit of misery and despair (obviously I teach this in the context of Operation: Winnow, but the principles can be easily adapted to just about any sensible routine with a little critical thought).
* An unusual way of running sprints you can use as a substitute for your regular “hard” cardio or tack onto the end of a workout for some low-risk fat-busting action (perfect if you’re no longer a spring chicken).
* How to tell when you’re starting to get burned out on training (ignore these warning signs at your peril).
* The types of exercises that are best for adding quality work to your weightlifting routines without, as one user of the T-Nation forums at some point in the early 2010s put it, “compounding the shyte out of yourself” and winding up with a serious (perhaps training-terminating) injury.
That’s the book in a large and detailed nutshell.
You are doubtless wondering:
£155.
Yes, I know that’s a lot for a mere “book”.
But when you consider that you are getting a robust, flexible, and effective (sometimes brutally so) system you can use and reuse over and over again whenever the bulge rears its pockmarked head to take back control and reclaim your handsome, healthy body, I think it’s a fairly good deal.
Doubly so when you compare it to the price of a month or two’s worth of nutritional supplements that even the producers themselves admit barely do anything.
Or the cost of paying a nice but dim personal trainer to follow you around the gym like a lost puppy for a couple of sessions.
Whatever the case, the ultimate decision is yours, and now it’s time to decide:
Operation: Winnow is a 52 A4-page Real Paper book that costs £155.
There are three important points to bear in mind before buying:
Firstly, I cannot guarantee any results, even if you follow my instructions perfectly because there are many and varied factors determining your success beyond your or my control.
Secondly I don’t offer diet advice, so you won’t find anything to that effect in the book (consult a registered dietitian if you need help beyond “eat more of what you know you should eat, and less of what you know you shouldn’t).
Thirdly and most importantly, there are no refunds and all sales are final, with the dual exceptions of:
* When you are entitled to a refund under English law, and,
* If your book arrives damaged (in which case, I’ll replace it free of charge).
Delivery is via Royal Mail’s Tracked 48 service at my expense. I will email you your tracking number as soon as I have it.
